Dennis Teranishi - President & CEO

Dennis Y. Teranishi was appointed President/CEO of the Pacific International Center for High Technology Research (PICHTR), in December 2013.  He has been a board member since 1997.  PICTHR, established in 1983, is a non-profit organization that accelerates technology commercialization to increase security, safety and economic opportunities in Hawaii and the Asia-Pacific region.  Its focus is on renewable energy, agriculture, disaster management training and dual-use technology.    

In addition to his involvement with PICHTR, he serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Hawaiian Host, Inc.; Island Holdings, Inc.; Island Insurance Co., Ltd.; is Chair of the board of the U.S. Japan Council; and an Executive Advisor to ItoEn, USA (NYC), and Emmaus Life Sciences, Inc. (LA).

Mr. Teranishi received his Master of Science degree in soil chemistry and plant nutrition from the University of Hawaii, and his Bachelor of Science degree in crop science from California State Polytechnic University.  He was honorably discharged as a Captain in the US Army. 

He has been recognized by the College of Tropical Agriculture at the University of Hawaii both in 1993 as outstanding alumnus, and in 2013 as the recipient of the Ka Lei Hano Heritage award for his continuous support of the college.   In April 2014, the Government of Japan bestowed upon him the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Rosette.  The Japanese Foreign Ministry awarded him a Foreign Minister’s Commendation in 2010 for contributions to the promotion of understanding and friendly relations between Japan and the U.S.A.
