Programs
With its mid-Pacific location and international ties, PICHTR is uniquely positioned to promote and develop technologies appropriate to the Asia-Pacific region. Its six program areas offer expanded potential for improving the quality of life and sustainable development of the island communities in the region.
Since its inception, PICHTR has pioneered development of Renewable Energy Systems involving ocean, biomass, wind and solar energy technologies. Leveraging its success in these areas PICHTR has expanded its efforts to include applied research and development of other environmental planning and remediation activities involving Agriculture and Biosystems Technology. Hand-in-hand in deploying these technologies, PICHTR’s Education and Training Program works to build indigenous expertise, leadership, and capabilities respective of local customs and cultural values. These efforts have helped produce a network of experts and resources throughout the Pacific Islands region. In advancing its vision to promote the adoption and implementation of appropriate technologies in the region, PICHTR has launched the Health Information Systems to improve health care in the region.
The High Technology Development Venture (HTDV) was conceived to create a Pacific regional center for commercialization of defense and homeland security technologies and build a stronger technology base in Hawaii to meet the technology requirements of the Department of Navy and Department of Defense.
The Hawaii Renewable Energy
Development Venture's (HREDV) mission is to identify, evaluate, and/or
demonstrate feasible energy options, including development and testing of
technologies to create viable renewable energy systems and supportive policies
and to implement those systems in the State of Hawaii. HREDV intends to
provide project funding for Hawaii-based technology development in the areas
of early stage innovation, testing and evaluation, and pre-commercial
demonstration.
