Dr. Vassilis Syrmos is Vice President of Research and Innovation for the University of Hawaii System. In this position, he was instrumental in the development of the Daniel K. Inouye Center for Microbial Oceanography: Research and Education.
Dr. Syrmos has authored or coauthored over 100 academic papers. His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, Office of Naval Research, Naval Air Systems Command, Naval Sea Systems Command, Air Force Research Labs, Army Research Labs, The Boeing Company, and Hawaiian Electric Company.
Dr. Syrmos is a Boeing AD Welliver Fellow. He earned his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Georgia Tech.
